Neither Paris nor London – Zadar is the Best European Destination 2016

The voting lasted from January 20, and out of a total of 288,992 votes, Zadar received almost one in five votes, totaling 57,616.

Zadar is the best European destination of 2016, having won this title through the votes of readers of the European Best Destination portal in a competition of 20 cities, announced on Thursday from that portal. The voting lasted from January 20, and out of a total of 288,992 votes, Zadar received almost one in five votes, totaling 57,616. 

Following Zadar, the highest number of votes were received by Athens and Plovdiv, and alongside these cities in the competition for the prestigious title of European Best Destinations 2016 were Prague, Amsterdam, Kotor, Brussels, Paris, Novi Sad, Berlin, Vienna, Edinburgh, Madrid, Rome, Barcelona, Nicosia, the Azores, Nantes, London, and Milan. The title of the best European destination in 2016 was also congratulated to Zadar and its citizens by the Minister of Tourism Anton Kliman. 

– This wonderful recognition is a congratulation to all tourism workers in the City of Zadar, Zadar County, and beyond. We hope this will be a motivation for further improvement of the destination’s development and an encouragement to other tourist destinations across Croatia. You are proof that effort pays off!, says Minister Kliman. 

European Best Destination is a European association based in Brussels, established with the aim of promoting culture and tourism in Europe. In collaboration with tourist offices and the EDEN association, it promotes a greater understanding of the wealth, diversity, and quality of European destinations on a European and global level. Since 2009, the organization has collaborated with most tourist offices in Europe and rewards and highlights the most visited destinations through its website and social media.
