Wrong Direction – 58.6% of Croatian Citizens Believe that General Trends in the Country are Negative

The formation of the Government has not led to significant shifts in the relationship between the left and right coalitions, but the biggest loser is Most, whose voter support continues to decline.

This was shown by the regular monthly survey of CRO Demoskop conducted by the Promocije plus agency, reports HRT.

Interestingly, more than half of the citizens – 58.6% believe that general trends in the country are negative, i.e., going in the wrong direction. The only exception is HDZ voters, among whom the majority think otherwise.

The survey shows a continuation of the decline in support for Most alongside a simultaneous increase in undecided voters. If parliamentary elections were held in early February, the Patriotic Coalition would have a slight advantage over the left-liberal coalition Croatia is Growing and would be the relative winner in the elections (in ten electoral units, excluding the diaspora and minority lists). The HDZ’s Patriotic Coalition is first with a choice of 32.7% of the votes, while the SDP’s coalition Croatia is Growing is in second place with a choice of 32.3%. The biggest surprise of the last parliamentary elections, Most of Independent Lists is in third place with 9.1%. Thus, Most has seen a drop in support of 6.3 points in two post-election monthly surveys.

On the ranking list of independent political parties, the top belongs to HDZ with a choice of 30.0%, and SDP with 28.8%. On this list, Most recorded a decline in electoral support of 2.6 percentage points in a month. The Living Wall is in fourth place with 3.1%, followed by HNS with 2.4%.

President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović remains the most positively viewed politician with a choice of 24.6%. Zoran Milanović is in second place with 10.3%, while Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković is third with a choice of 9.9%. In this month’s survey, Josip Leko is in fourth place with a choice of 7.2%, followed by Božo Petrov with a choice of 4.7%.

The top of the list of negative perceptions of Croatian politicians is convincingly held by two leaders of the leading Croatian political parties: Tomislav Karamarko (30.5%) and Zoran Milanović (28.5%).

In the selection for the most important topic/event of the month, one topic covers almost half: the election of the new Government of Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković (47.2%). Two topics follow with a choice greater than 10%: the bronze medal of the handball players at the European Championship in Poland (17.0%) and the case of Minister Crnoja and his resignation (12.1%).

The direction of the country’s movement is supported by 24.1% of citizens, while 58.6% believe that Croatia is going in the wrong direction. 17.3% do not know. The largest share of social optimists is recorded among voters of the parties that make up the current parliamentary majority. More than two-thirds of HDZ voters (67.9%) believe that the general situation in the country is moving in a good direction, but significantly fewer among voters of the Milan Bandić Party (36.4%), Most (31.3%), and HSS (27.3%). The situation is reversed among opposition voters. Only 4% of Living Wall voters believe that the situation is developing in a good direction, while among SDP voters, 6.5%, and OraH 10%.
