Who would have thought that the price of oil would be lower than the price of spring water?

In the past few days, the US dollar and Japanese yen have stopped strengthening in the currency market, indicating that the situation has stabilized regarding the economy, and these currencies have fallen by 1-2% against most other currencies.

Last week, the Governor of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, announced discussions about a potential easing of monetary policy within the Eurozone, which would halt the further strengthening of the euro, which has surprisingly held up well given the panic that has gripped the markets.

Following this news, the euro immediately began to weaken, and a continuation of this trend is expected over the coming months.

Who would have thought that the price of oil would be cheaper than the price of spring water?! According to a simple calculation, it is easy to see that the price of a liter of water is around 10 kuna, while the price of a liter of crude oil is around 2 kuna. In 2015 alone, the price fell by an incredible 27%, while since the beginning of 2016, it has fallen by an additional 12%.

There are justified economic reasons for the high price of water, while the reasons for the drop in oil prices are simply market saturation; however, experts believe that a drop below current levels is not realistically expected.

In the global grain market, nothing significant has changed. Prices for all commodities remain extremely favorable, and we have not felt a shortage of goods for a long time. Thus, at the end of last week, a ship arrived in Koper with 50,000 tons of soybean meal, another arrived in the same port with a similar quantity yesterday, while in our Rijeka, an additional 12,000 tons of soybean meal is being unloaded into silos. We hope that the weather will be favorable and that the new season will start as soon as possible so that warehouses and silos can begin to empty.
