The new Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković stated on Monday during the handover of this department from Siniša Hajdaš Dončić that he opposes the monetization of highways and that he will resolve debts through reprogramming and restructuring of companies.
I am absolutely against monetization. We will move towards restructuring companies and reprogramming existing obligations, with improvements in the companies themselves and their functioning, Butković stated and added: – We must first see what the situation is in the sector, not only in the road transport part but also in all other sectors.
When asked by journalists how many billions of debt are due to Hrvatske autoceste this year, Butković said “around 400 million euros” and reiterated that part will likely be resolved through reprogramming, while part will be through restructuring.
The outgoing Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Siniša Hajdaš Dončić emphasized that he is leaving his department without unpaid bills and with several agreed large infrastructure projects, such as Dubrovnik Airport, the entrance to Ploče, the Trogir bridge, and the Pelješac bridge. He assessed that the new minister will have the most problems with HAC, HŽ Cargo, and HŽ Passenger Transport, specifically the privatization of part of the transport companies.
Regarding HAC’s debts, Hajdaš Dončić reminded that the Government at one of its last sessions approved a loan of 200 million euros for the refinancing of HAC’s obligations, so that problem is more or less resolved, but that this loan has the obligation of either privatization or an initial public offering of HAC-ONC shares.
