Although previous versions of the Developer Kit cost $350, and it was announced that the device could be cheaper than that, the final price of $599 surprised many. Therefore, it is not surprising that a series of negative comments has appeared on the internet these days. However, this did not prevent the entire first series from being sold out in pre-sale.
Oculus founder Palmer Luckey took the blame for the poor price assessment and explained that the main reason is the high quality of components that will be in the final product. In addition, he stated that despite the hefty price, he does not expect to make a profit, at least not at the beginning of the sales of this eagerly awaited device. For the stated price, customers will receive not only the Rift but also the Oculus Rift remote, an Xbox One gamepad, all necessary cables, and the games Eve: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale.
It will hit the market on March 28 of this year, and the Oculus Touch controller has been delayed for several months and will be sold separately. In this whole story, the early users who supported Oculus Rift on Kickstarter a few years ago have come out the best. Although they received an early version of the Developer Kit back then, it has been announced that they will now receive the final device because they believed in this product from the beginning.
