The Internet of Things is finally expected to become ‘mainstream’ this year. This is evidenced by Samsung’s recent announcement that all Smart TV receivers for 2016 will be ready for Internet of Things technology and connected to the SmartThings platform.
It is an open platform for connecting smart devices and managing them, as well as services based on that technology. The new Smart TV receivers will implement IoT hub technology (IoT, Internet of Things), which will make them the control device for the entire smart home. This is a solution that Samsung has developed in collaboration with SmartThings. These TV receivers can connect to Samsung devices and manage them, as well as to SmartThings sensors, and over two hundred compatible devices such as networked lights, locks, thermostats, and cameras. All Samsung Smart TV receivers for 2016 will have SmartThings technology, but functionality will be activated by regions. It is worth mentioning that Samsung has also announced the expansion of its gaming service on the Smart TV platform, which will this year enable four hundred titles for streaming via the Playstation Now service and another hundred games with the possibility of local download.
