If your Internet connection is a bit slower than usual this holiday season, you may have overdone it with the Christmas lights.
A new study conducted by Ofcom, the UK communications regulator, indicates that electrical devices such as microwaves, baby monitors, exercise equipment, and even Christmas lights can slow down Wi-Fi network speeds.
Ofcom presented this research to the public simultaneously with the launch of its Ofcom Wi-Fi Checker app, which measures internet connection quality and suggests solutions to improve it.
– Access to the internet today is among the four essential needs of humanity, alongside oil, water, and electricity, – stated Sharon White, Chief Executive of Ofcom, adding that thanks to super-fast internet networks, we are living in a time of technological revolution.
