Mistakes That Will Definitely Prevent You From Getting a Job

It is no secret that employers can intimidate and reject potential employees with a bad image and unprofessionalism. If they have a bad reputation for improper treatment of workers or if they treat you poorly during the job interview, you can only imagine what it will be like if you start working for them.

However, what is less often discussed is the fact that potential employees often reject employers with their behavior, and below we present the five most common ways they do this.

They Do Not Listen

Job interviews often turn into generic answers to generic questions, and job candidates, due to nerves, conduct the entire conversation completely absent-mindedly. Employers who ask a few days later about what was specifically discussed in the interview often receive no answer at all or get a generic repetition that only shows them that the candidates were not paying attention at all. This is an automatic warning that such a person is not very good at communication and understanding, and often leads to rejection.

They Confuse Enthusiasm with Aggressiveness

Sometimes it is good to show initiative and slightly break the rules to present yourself as a proactive worker, but moderation is key. Do not be overly aggressive and annoying with constant calls, flattery, and aggressive imposition. If a company promised to get back to you by a certain date, wait for them to do so. If they do not respond, it shows that they are not very professional, and it might be better not to work for them. If they do respond properly, it certainly will not work in your favor that you called them days before, showing that you doubt their work ethic.

They Pretend to Know Everything

If you present yourself as an all-knowing person who will solve all of the company’s problems in a few days during the preliminary interviews, you send out a vibe of arrogance and rudeness. You cannot solve all their problems because you simply do not know enough information about them, and you offend them by implying that they are incompetent or do not work hard enough to solve them themselves. Humility is often a virtue that will take you much further than arrogance, keep that in mind.

They Do Not Stick to Agreements

We all sometimes fail, make mistakes, or are late. When this happens, it is important to admit mistakes and apologize, and under no circumstances should you blame others or higher powers. Most employers would rather hire someone without experience but honest and with good instincts than a person who refuses to take responsibility for their actions and commitments.

They Change Their Minds

Sometimes preliminary interviews go excellently, and you really click with the employer, but that does not mean that after the second or third meeting you can change your tune and immediately ask for a better salary or a higher position in the company. Such things automatically eliminate you from the hiring process. It is nice to know how to negotiate and value yourself as a worker, but you cannot change your attitudes and demands halfway through the story if you know well under what conditions you entered the negotiations. First, get the job, and then you can advance through work.

Therefore, we can conclude that moderation and restraint are the keys to success, as usual. There is no need to be a meek sheep who agrees to everything in job interviews, but it also makes no sense to be arrogant and rude. Be who you are and stick to the old Roman saying – everything in moderation, including moderation itself.
