Karamarko Deputy Prime Minister, Petrov Vice President of the Government and Reiner Head of Parliament

The day after President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović granted Tihomir Orešković the mandate to form a government, outlines of the future Government have emerged in public.

Thus, alongside potential Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković, the leader of HDZ, Tomislav Karamarko, will sit as Deputy Prime Minister. This is believed to give the Government a political level. The leader of Most, Božo Petrov, would be the Vice President of the Government. 

When it comes to the Parliament, there seems to be no doubt – HDZ’s Željko Reiner is the first candidate for the head of parliament.

However, before the distribution of positions, everything will need to be initialed. Agreement or coalition? Even Most is no longer sure. While Petrov insists that there is no coalition but rather an agreement between parties and a partnership relationship, Juro Martinović from Most stated that everything will be initialed with a coalition agreement between Most and the Patriotic Coalition. He is supported by Darinko Kosor, the leader of HSLS, which is part of the Patriotic Coalition. Kosor confirmed that a coalition agreement will be signed and that the difference between a coalition agreement and the “agreement” as advocated by Petrov is merely in – terminology.

– It is a terminological difference, we are talking about the same thing. As it suits each party, explains Kosor.

And that (coalition) agreement will be signed next week.

And while HDZ and Most are sharing positions, the opposition believes that voters have been deceived. Critics dispute the legitimacy of the mandate. Thus, the Living Wall stated on Thursday that the new Croatian mandate Tihomir Orešković has no moral and political right to hold office because no one voted for him.

– Congratulations to the Teva group on the successful acquisition of Croatia, said the leader of the Living Wall, Vilibor Sinčić.

From HDSSB they stated that they will not support the Prime Minister nor obstruct his work, and the minorities want to meet Tihomir Orešković and only then decide whether to support the mandate.

In Orešković’s defense stood Tomislav Karamarko.

– We have received a mandate. Now that he has become a world-renowned businessman, now that a Croat has come from the world, a top expert, now the problem is legitimacy. We in HDZ know that the problem is not that but the fact that HDZ, the Patriotic Coalition, and Most agreed on the mandate. His expertise and the Croatian Parliament give him legitimacy. The Parliament is a representative body in which citizens directly elect their representatives. Then the representatives, as representatives of the people, vote confidence in the Government, said the president of HDZ and added: – The Constitution does not prescribe the direct election of the Prime Minister. If we wanted such elections, we would have probably included them in the Constitution. Every now and then we swear by parliamentary democracy, and when it needs to be applied, some deny it.

And the president of SDP, Zoran Milanović, left a comment on Facebook. He commented on the situation regarding the formation of the new government, stating that the situation Croatia has found itself in over the past few days has not been recorded in recent history. He wrote that he could not influence various pressures and insincerity from the other side of the table, which ultimately led to voter fraud and the undermining of democratic rules and standards.
