Proposed 150 Ideas for Starting a Business with Initial Investments Ranging from 800 to 8000 Euros

The Serbian Association of Managers has presented 150 proposals for starting one’s own business, aimed at all entrepreneurial individuals who have between 800 and 8,000 euros in initial capital.

As noted by the Association, the proposals are primarily intended for employees of companies undergoing restructuring, who have lost their jobs along with severance packages, but also for anyone else who has the specified amount available.

For example, cultivating a multi-fruit raspberry on an area of 200 square meters requires an initial investment of 1,700 euros, while sage on one hectare requires 1,200 euros. Examples of ideas listed in the SAM manual include the production of plastic bags, which requires about 7,000 euros in initial capital, or the production of braided wire, which requires an investment of 2,500 euros, as reported by Serbian b92.

– We have made an effort to ensure that all ideas are feasible in Serbia, but that they fall within the range of 800 to 5,000 or a maximum of 8,000 euros. This is the amount estimated that workers will receive based on severance packages, said the Executive Director of SAM, Jelena Bulatović.

She believes that ideas requiring slightly higher initial investments can be realized by pooling resources among several colleagues to start a business together.

– There is something for everyone. In the manual, we have listed for each idea what is needed, the area or space required, and whether the purchase of machinery is necessary. It also states the minimum initial investment, future investments, how to register a business, company, or family farm, and how many people need to be engaged.

Bulatović explains that the ideas for starting a small business are part of the project “Chance for a New Beginning,” which SAM is implementing together with DNA communications, with the support of USAID.

– We started from the premise that these workers have been working for years and have experience, and we provided suggestions in case they lack ideas on how to utilize that experience and venture into entrepreneurship on their own, with their families or colleagues, said Bulatović.
