Significant Drop: Prices of Some Fuels at Their Lowest Since the Beginning of the Global Crisis

Fuel prices have been falling for the second consecutive week. However, this time some prices have dropped the most since the beginning of the global crisis. The price of eurosuper 95 has decreased by 22 lipa since Tuesday and is now sold in the range of 8.85 to 8.89 kuna, depending on the company. This is the largest drop in the last two months and the lowest price since February.

However, the drop in eurodiesel prices is breaking all records. According to information from the portal cijenegoriva.info, the price of a liter of this type of fuel on Tuesday is lower by as much as 37 lipa, which is the largest drop since December 2008. It is now sold in the range of 7.84 to 7.87 kuna, depending on the company. This is also the lowest price for this type of fuel in the last five and a half years (on April 13, 2010, the price of eurodiesel was 7.78 kuna). Some retailers, such as Plinski centar Zagreb (PCZ), sell it at an even lower price (7.73 kuna). In the last two weeks, the price of a liter of eurodiesel has decreased by a total of 55 lipa, meaning that drivers pay 27.5 kuna less for a 50-liter tank.

Drivers using autogas also have reasons to be satisfied. According to information from the portal cijenegoriva.info, the price of a liter of autogas on Tuesday fell by as much as 25 lipa and is sold at a price of 3.83 kuna at the vast majority of stations. This is also the largest drop in the price of autogas since the end of March this year.

Cheaper fuel in Croatia is a result of the decline in the prices of petroleum derivatives in the so-called Mediterranean market by 4.4 to 9.6 percent compared to the previous week and a drop in the dollar exchange rate by 2.6 percent. Given that the price of a barrel on the world markets has fallen to around 37 dollars, and since the exchange rate of the dollar and kuna is falling, we could expect a continuation of lower fuel prices next week if the mentioned trends (decline in oil prices and the dollar and kuna exchange rates) continue during this week.
