Nextbike System in Zagreb Shuts Down for Winter Break

The public bicycle system in Zagreb is shutting down terminals and storing bicycles. The winter break is customary in all cities across Europe, including Zagreb, due to the annual servicing of bicycles and unfavorable weather conditions.

Yesterday, the nextbike cycling season in Zagreb officially ended. Throughout 2015, the nextbike public bicycle system experienced significant growth with the expansion into new cities. This year, Šibenik, Gospić, Slavonski Brod, and Karlovac joined the global community of smart cities of the future with a pilot project. The system in Zagreb received several new locations, making it easier for all Zagreb residents and their visitors to navigate the city. According to the company, the public bicycle system will also come to Vukovar next year.

According to announcements from the company, during the winter break, an annual service of the bicycles will be conducted to ensure that the cycling experience remains as pleasant as it has been so far.

– In addition to comfort and quality equipment, the safety of cyclists is extremely important, which Nextbike has prioritized throughout the year, the company stated.

The first plans for 2016 include expansion and new locations for the public bicycle system in Šibenik, Zagreb, and the opening of the system in Vukovar.

Currently, the nextbike system in Croatia has 160 bicycles and 30 stations. More than 8,200 registered nextbike users have traveled approximately 280,000 kilometers, completed 120,000 rentals, and reduced CO2 emissions by as much as 80 tons. These figures are the best confirmation that bicycles are essential for modern Croatian cities and an integral part of public urban transport. Along with numerous benefits for users, there are also significant advantages for the city and society as a whole.
