The new convocation of the Croatian Parliament convened today for its inaugural session, under circumstances not seen in a quarter of a century of modern parliamentary practice, as it remains unknown who holds the majority in the parliament.
Robert Podolnjak (Most) was proposed for the Speaker of the Parliament, but he rejected this candidacy, resulting in the Parliament not being constituted and the session being adjourned.
– I thank you for the support, but I will accept this proposal only if it is the result of a consensus among the parties, said Podolnjak, adding that he does not accept the candidacy.
Ivan Šuker from HDZ stated that the proposal was signed only by representatives of SDP, and not by representatives of the list from which Podolnjak was nominated.
Since the Speaker of the Parliament was not elected, Josip Leko adjourned the session.
