Even before the confirmation of the CBS, HP workers demand profit distribution, while HŽ expects a six percent salary increase

The Croatian Bureau of Statistics will publish the estimate of the quarterly calculation of gross domestic product for 2015 on Friday. The first estimate showed that GDP grew by 2.8 percent in the third quarter.

If the Croatian Bureau of Statistics confirms the first estimate, it will mean that GDP has grown by more than two percent in two consecutive quarters. This means that, according to the agreement between former Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and the unions from 2011, the salary base in public services would have to increase by an average of six percent.

However, even before the CBS announced and confirmed the first estimate of GDP growth in the third quarter, some unions in Croatia had already mobilized.

Workers of Croatian Post, led by the unions, are demanding profit distribution from the newly elected CEO Ivan Kranjčić, considering that the company is operating positively.

– Workers of Croatian Post are working more than ever, for a lower salary than ever, and they have made a huge contribution to stabilizing the operations of this public company, claim union representatives Milan Jukić from the Croatian Post Union and Marija Jukić from the Republic Union of Workers of Croatia.

They remind that the Post achieved a positive result of 86.4 million kuna in the first nine months, while the final results could be even better than that. In Croatian Post, no additional material rights are being realized, such as Christmas bonuses, vacation pay, Easter gifts, children’s gifts, jubilee awards, and similar, which is why the unions represented in the company demand that all workers be paid a one-time profit distribution that they conclude they have certainly earned.

Unions at Croatian Railways also warn that they have made significant sacrifices. The state, they remind, is coming out of the crisis, the (former) government is full of good results, and following that, they expect a salary increase of six percent as stipulated in the collective agreement from 2007.
