7 sectors that could aid the recovery of the construction industry

Surviving builders have found salvation in tourism or in specialization and construction according to the ‘best buy’ system. Real estate agents do not yet notice a recovery in the market, but they observe that quality properties in attractive locations are achieving prices very close to those before the crisis.

In the latest issue of Lider, we write about the state of the domestic real estate market in the weekly topic. You can read the entire text in the printed edition, and here we present a list of seven sectors that could help the recovery of the construction industry due to the use of European Union funds.

Tourism
The sector with the most promising investments. This year, investment in the construction and reconstruction of tourist capacities has sharply increased, and the tourism sector has one of the largest investment potentials, including health tourism.

Environmental Protection
Projects related to waste management, i.e., the construction of waste management centers, as well as water protection, i.e., the construction of drainage systems and wastewater treatment.

Stimulus for the Processing Industry
Primarily refers to the development of capacities in the food and wood industries, which should be strategically important for the country, but also other industries, depending on the creation of a more favorable economic environment.

Energy Savings
Can be achieved in industrial production, transport, agriculture, and households. It is beneficial for private users, but also for society as a whole. The Energy Efficiency Fund is co-financing energy renovation of buildings and family houses with 806 million kuna this year alone.

Irrigation of Agricultural Land
Only one percent of agricultural production is irrigated, which is too little for the development of agriculture. New projects could employ domestic capacities.

Energy
Specifically refers to hydroenergy in mountainous areas rich in water. Coal-fired power plants are not part of the solution as we depend on coal imports, which are expensive investments. The construction of a gas pipeline network is also one of the possibilities, and investment from private sources is also possible.

Transport Infrastructure
Has the least opportunities compared to other sectors. It includes the renovation and construction of roads, railways, ports, and waterways, and therefore a state strategy and rounding off the financial structure are needed, which is difficult to expect under these conditions. The only possibility is EU funds, but we have done too little in that regard.
