After six months of continuous decline, primarily due to seasonal employment in tourism, the unemployment rate has started to rise again on a monthly basis since September.
The registered unemployment rate in Croatia increased in October for the second consecutive month, from 16.2% in September to 17.2%, according to data released on Monday by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).
After six months of continuous decline, primarily due to seasonal employment in tourism, the unemployment rate has started to rise again on a monthly basis since September.
However, compared to October of last year, when it was 18.6%, the unemployment rate was 1.4 percentage points lower last month.
The increase in the unemployment rate on a monthly basis was expected, given that previously released data from the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) showed that the number of unemployed increased by 6.3% in October compared to September, to approximately 275,800 individuals.
Data from the HZZ website indicates that the rise in unemployment continued in November, with approximately 283,000 individuals currently unemployed, about 7,200 more than at the end of October.
