Executive president of Dinamo, Zdravko Mamić, and four other individuals were arrested on Wednesday morning by order of Uskok, according to sources close to the police and the state attorney’s office.
According to initial unofficial information, Mamić’s son was also arrested. Uskok is also charging the executive president of the Croatian Football Federation, Damir Vrbanović, who was arrested with Mamić in July of this year.
As reported by the media, among those arrested is Zdravko’s son Mario and three other individuals, and according to initial unofficial information, they are suspected of economic malfeasance. They are allegedly accused of extracting around 80 million kuna from Dinamo through player transfers from 2004 to 2015.
Mamić has been under Uskok’s investigation for some time due to suspicions that, along with his brother Zoran, Vrbanović, and tax officer Milan Pernat, he caused Dinamo to suffer damages of at least 117.8 million kuna, and the budget for at least 12.2 million kuna in unaccounted and unpaid taxes and surtaxes. Zdravko Mamić is claimed by Uskok to have illegally extracted at least 52 million kuna from Dinamo, while his younger brother Zoran illegally earned 38.1 million kuna from the club and tax evasion.
The Mamić brothers and Vrbanović were released from custody on July 15 after posting bail. The Zagreb Municipal State Attorney’s Office charged Mamić at the end of July for threatening football player manager Robert Murić.
Mate Matić, the lawyer for the executive president of the Croatian Football Federation, Damir Vrbanović, stated that he believes that in the new Uskok action against Zdravko Mamić and others, Vrbanović does not have to be arrested because after the first initiation of the investigation, he posted bail which implies that he will respond to any call from the investigator.
