MOST calls on SDP and HDZ not to ruin the chance: We want to see measures for Croatian structural recovery on the table

The Most party rejected on Friday interpretations that the party is shirking responsibility and assessed that the “pressure from the public for hasty decision-making regarding the formation of a new Government is unrealistic and unacceptable.”

Most, which won 19 parliamentary mandates in the elections on Sunday, reminds in a statement that immediately after the announcement of the election results, it opened discussions about possible post-election cooperation with HDZ and SDP, offering them, in principle, the possibility of cooperation on a broader platform than forming a Government with just one party.

– The electoral process is not yet completed, and previous experiences of forming a Government in Croatia (and in European countries) typically take a month. Any pressure, any haste in the process of discussions with both sides can direct the finalization towards a pure ‘us or them’ version that Most does not agree to, and it is precisely this that these two parties advocate through such indirect pressure. Most prioritizes only the model of agreeing on structural reforms that will result in the well-being of Croatia, rather than partial interest positions, including Most’s position,” they state in the announcement.

They emphasize that the meetings held so far have only been initial and that the “pressure from the public for hasty decision-making regarding the formation of a new Government is unrealistic and unacceptable.”

– At these meetings, it was agreed that the main program positions and the desired direction of structural reforms and changes would first be harmonized. During the next week, after the official announcement from the State Election Commission about the election results, MOST will submit an official proposal for structural reforms and changes, as well as a possible structure of the new Government to both parties.

They point out that Most has already shown readiness to participate in executive responsibility, and that at the highest level, with its initial proposal.

– For that readiness to take root, Most did not act ultimatum-like, therefore we reject pressures in which it is completely inaccurately portrayed that Most is shirking responsibility. On the contrary, precisely because of the willingness to take on maximum responsibility, we do not want to bring both HDZ and SDP, and then ourselves, into a deadlock position due to which discussions would be blocked.

They ask the public not to “agree to apocalyptic scenarios of world collapse due to a few days of consultations,” emphasizing that they are ready to take full responsibility, even executive, and that therefore they “must not agree to a scenario of pressures under the motto ‘there is no time.'”

– There is certainly time, and Most will use that time to build stable frameworks of government, both legislative and executive. Croatia has received a chance for responsible politics in the last elections. Politics that does not succumb to panic and behind-the-scenes scenarios. Once again, we call on both HDZ and SDP not to ruin that chance. Most will not enter the Croatian Parliament or the Government Palace for the sake of positions, any ‘under-the-table offers’, or being intimidated by pressures. Next week, we want to see only measures for Croatian structural recovery on the table. Nothing else will be ‘smuggled’ through Most, they convey.
