The Procurement Department Must Not Operate as a Separate Entity

After Lidija Pintek, innovations in procurement were discussed by Aleksandra Kregar Brus from Atlantic Group, Luka Rutar from Danfoss, and Vlado Prosenik, director of Efekto pro.

Aleksandra Kregar Brus, director of central marketing at Atlantic Group, spoke at the Procurement Conference about the synergy between her department and procurement.

– Today, when we talk about the success of a company, we primarily talk about profit. The procurement and marketing departments play a key role in this process. We essentially control market risks – emphasizes Kregar Brus.

However, a company cannot achieve the desired profit or succeed in its business plans if every function within the company operates as a separate entity, warns the marketing director, adding that procurement must not come in the final phase, but that department must be in constant communication with the rest of the company, especially with marketing.

– Every brand must tell its story. The colors used, the design… And that is the task of the procurement department. Collaborative work is essential; it creates innovation – concludes Aleksandra Kregar Brus, an architect who has successfully navigated the world of marketing.

Luka Rutar from Danfoss, a company that offers components and solutions for the production, distribution, and use of thermal energy, also warned about the importance of communication and teamwork between different departments.

– Establishing workshops where employees from procurement, marketing, finance, and production discuss upcoming projects for two days has been crucial for my company. This has allowed us to achieve better results with fewer people. Mutual cooperation is our priority – says Rutar.

After the workshop, rigorous checks follow where everything is measured, analyzed, and compared with products from other companies. The value of projects that Danfoss has achieved through such workshops amounts to 1.5 million euros, and Rutar claims that this figure will significantly increase in the future.

– The main interest of people involved in procurement should be savings. It is also extremely important to establish a company structure where procurement is not the last link in the chain, but there is communication between departments. The worst thing is when management acts without previously consulting the procurement department. The third important point is transparency, as procurement is always considered to be hiding something or not working efficiently enough – explained Vlado Prosenik, director of Efekt Pro, to those gathered at the 10th Procurement Conference, jointly organized by Lider and the Croatian Association of Procurement Professionals (HUND).

Prosenik sees auctions as an essential element in the procurement process.

– Through auctions, you can buy almost anything. Do not limit yourself only to raw materials or paper – advises Prosenik.
