The guitar that was particularly dear to John Lennon and which he used in composing Beatles hits such as “She loves you” and “All my loving” was sold for $2.41 million at an auction held on Saturday by the American house Julien’s Auctions.
Lennon purchased this 1962 Gibson J-160E acoustic guitar in Liverpool in September of the same year for £161, the institution adds, as reported by the media.
– John loved that guitar so much that he took it home, where he wrote songs with Paul McCartney, the auction house adds in a statement reporting on the sale.
Julien’s Auctions states that the instrument went missing in December 1963 during a Beatles Christmas concert in Finsbury Park, London, and was not known for 50 years. Julien’s does not disclose how it was found. John Lennon, who was murdered on December 8, 1980, in front of the building where he lived, near Central Park in New York, would have turned 75 this year.
