Five Skills Millennials Need to Find a Job

Millennials claim that employers view them condescendingly. They say they are considered lazy, self-absorbed, and arrogant. Prejudices and the gap between generations are certainly present, as evidenced by EU statistics showing a record number of people aged 18-24 unemployed today.

However, if millennials master these 5 skills, no one has a legitimate right to reject their job applications.

1. Knowledge of Technology

Regardless of the profession, LinkedIn analyses indicate that one of the most important skills employers seek from new employees is a good understanding of technology and computer work. This does not mean that being adept in Microsoft Word will be sufficient. However, completing a course at one of the IT schools could be very helpful.

2. Foreign Languages

Knowledge of foreign languages brings numerous advantages; it improves cognitive abilities, can prevent the onset of dementia, and will also increase your vocabulary and understanding of your native language. In Great Britain, three-quarters of the working-age population speaks only one language, so anyone with knowledge of at least two languages has a significant advantage in employment.

3. Go Back to School

If you want to succeed in the business sector, having a degree from a business university today seems like a mandatory requirement. Not only will employers respect you more, but they will also have to offer you a higher salary. If you do not have adequate education, you can always enroll in college or further qualify for work.

4. Experience

You have a degree from a prestigious university, good grades, yet the job still eludes you? A 2010 EU labor market study showed that nearly 90 percent of employers want employees with prior work experience. Given this situation, internships seem to be the best way for young people to gain the necessary experience.

5. Never Stop Learning

As clichéd as this phrase may be, it is extremely useful. Soon, your jobs will be threatened by even younger and more educated individuals than you, and without continuous learning and keeping up with trends, it will be difficult to remain relevant.
