Given that the situation with the wave of refugees passing through Croatia is changing day by day, the scenario of fencing the border with Serbia is not excluded.
If Slovenia or Austria drastically reduce the influx of migrants, and they continue to arrive in such numbers through Serbia, Croatia will also have to limit their influx if it does not want, as Prime Minister Zoran Milanović says, to become a ‘hot spot’. Allegedly, there are plans to erect a fence towards Serbia, the construction of which would take several weeks. In addition to the possible construction of a wall, the requested goods will certainly include barbed wire.
In Croatia, there are very few manufacturers of such and similar wire, and among the largest are Reta from Karlovac and Tofrado from Pleternica. At Reta, which supplies large retail chains such as Bauhaus and Pevec and exports part of its production, they say that, given the existing contracts, they could supply 30 to 35 kilometers of barbed wire per week. In Tofrado, in the case of increased demand and working in two shifts, they could supply 12 kilometers of barbed wire per day.
