Apple’s new music service has gained over 6.5 million subscribers, said the company’s CEO Tim Cook yesterday.
Speaking at a technology conference organized by The Wall Street Journal in California, Cook stated that an additional 8.5 million people are using Apple Music services for free on a trial basis. This totals over 15 million users, which Cook described as a successful debut.
Apple Music, which was launched in June, is the company’s attempt to maintain its dominance in the digital music space through the iTunes Store. Apple allows users to try its service for 90 days free of charge.
Analysts expect that Apple’s service will receive strong support due to the vast base of iTunes users, but a smaller portion believes that Apple will push out other companies providing music streaming services.
Spotify, the leading company in this area, has over 20 million subscribers worldwide.
