6th International Conference on Alternative Dispute Resolution – Cooperation of Administration and Judiciary with the Economy

The International Conference on Alternative Dispute Resolution – Cooperation of Administration and Judiciary with the Economy will be held organized by the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts on November 10 and 11 in the Great Hall of the Matica hrvatskih obrtnika, Ilica 49/I, Zagreb.

The conference aims to contribute to raising awareness among the general and professional public and all stakeholders involved in creating a framework for economic development about the importance of having an efficient judiciary and administration for the business operations of entrepreneurs, to encourage domestic and foreign investments and increase competitiveness, as well as the role of alternative dispute resolution in their development.

The first day of the conference will present news in the field of alternative dispute resolution and mediation in EU countries. Distinguished experts, scientists, and practitioners in the field of alternative dispute resolution, especially mediation and consumer protection from the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Denmark, and Croatia will address the participants.

There will also be discussions on the implementation of Directive EU/2013/11 on alternative dispute resolution for consumer disputes into Croatian legislation and the adoption of the first Croatian Law on Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes.

The second day of the conference is dedicated to online resolution of cross-border and domestic consumer disputes, challenges for traders and consumers, especially online traders, related to the upcoming new law with the direct application of the European Union Regulation on so-called ODR from January 9, 2016, along with a presentation by ECC Croatia. 

An educational workshop for traders and consumers on online resolution of consumer disputes and the new ODR platform of the European Commission is also planned. One of the main goals of the conference is to educate and inform traders (craftsmen and other entrepreneurs) and consumers about the challenges that follow the adoption of the first Croatian law on alternative dispute resolution for consumer disputes and the application of the European Regulation on online resolution of consumer disputes from January 2016. 

On the second day of the conference, a pilot project of the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts – ABEO (Administrative Barriers e-craftsman) will also be presented. The goal of the project is to assist craftsmen in eliminating administrative barriers, i.e., resolving issues that hinder their business operations. In this pilot phase of the ABEO project, HOK will collect data on business obstacles in two areas: the duration of court proceedings and the purchase and sale of business premises owned by the state, counties, cities, and municipalities.
