How the HNB Can De-euroize Croatia… If It Wants

I do not remember a time when the economy was so ‘cool’, even in the mouths of politicians. Almost like football, everyone loves it, everyone understands it.

Despite this, there are few real economic wounds in the focus of election campaigns. No one has said a word about tightening the expenditure side of the budget, after GDP growth and a higher rebalance. It’s not that we expected a serious discussion of topics and a sudden understanding of the state of affairs. However, burying our heads in the electoral sand (not just now but for a long time after the victory) will not solve the greatest enigma of the Croatian economy: how to repay public debt.    

The burden of 292 billion Even if the new/old/whatever government were to cut expenditures as if it were a joke, and even if we were to grow by 3-3.5 percent (from the current perspective, we can only dream of such a thing in 4-5 years), all that growth would go only to pay interest. Moreover, not only are we paying almost the highest interest rates on borrowing in the EU and surrounding areas (due to the risks perceived by financiers), but we are also eternally fearful of interest rate movements in international financial markets.
