The 1915 Krug sparkling wine bottle was sold on Friday for 103,932 euros at an auction in New York, and the buyer also received a two-day stay in the French region of Champagne for four people who will taste the sparkling wine on-site.
The name of the buyer who purchased the Krug sparkling wine on Friday has not been disclosed, but it is known that he, along with three other people of his choice, will be able to taste rare wines produced in that cellar and enjoy a meal specially prepared for them by Arnaud Lallement, whose restaurant Assiette Champenoise has three stars in the Michelin Guide.
In addition to the bottle sold at auction on Friday, Krug has three more bottles from 1915.
The price record was previously held by a bottle of Veuve-Clicquot from 1841, which was sold in 2011 for 30,000 euros. That bottle from 1841 is estimated to have spent about 180 years underwater, in a sunken ship near the Finnish coast.
