Tourists have come to Croatia in record numbers and this is the most successful tourist year to date, said Minister of Tourism Darko Lorencin on Saturday during the celebration of World Tourism Day in Rovinj.
The Minister added that he believes tourist spending will exceed 9.3 billion euros. The aim of celebrating World Tourism Day – this year under the slogan “One Billion Tourists, One Billion Opportunities” – is to raise awareness of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic values, Lorencin said.
– I believe that over the years we have done a lot to change the perception of tourism in Croatia as something that happens on its own and that we have shown how tourism is managed, said Lorencin.
He reminded that in March 2013, the Croatian Parliament adopted the Tourism Development Strategy until 2020 and then the Strategic Marketing Plan until 2020, which aims for balanced tourism development in all parts of Croatia. This strategy also anticipates stronger investment.
– Of the total seven billion euros, half will be invested in hotel capacities, which have opened more this year than in the last ten years, and half in additional facilities and attractions, said Minister Lorencin.
