Exporters: Continued Border Blockade Causes Significant Damage to Croatian Exporters and Economy

Regarding the border dispute between Croatia and Serbia, the Association of Croatian Exporters has called for a long-term solution as the current situation is detrimental to the Croatian economy.

The Association of Croatian Exporters (HIZ) stated on Thursday that a long-term solution must be found to normalize traffic between Croatia and Serbia, as the current situation harms the Croatian economy.

The Association of Croatian Exporters receives daily information from its members about the economic issues arising from the mutual bans imposed by the governments of the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Serbia due to the migration crisis, which is damaging the Croatian economy, particularly Croatian exports, the Association reported.

– We believe that a long-term solution should be found for the mutual satisfaction to normalize trade between the two countries again. A prolonged current situation will jeopardize the survival of existing contractual business relationships as well as the contracting of new deals, which will cause significant damage to Croatian exporting companies and, consequently, to the Croatian economy, emphasized HIZ.

In light of the border closure, the Croatian Employers’ Association also spoke out, specifically its president Gordana Deranja.

– The Croatian Employers’ Association expresses the desire and hope that a constructive solution will be reached as soon as possible, as financial damages to the economy are already occurring. Prolongation increases negative economic effects and creates far-reaching consequences. HUP is in constant contact with member companies on the ground and all relevant institutions, including the Government, and we have made all our resources available to find a constructive solution as quickly as possible.
