Numerous entrepreneurs, citizens, and public institutions were “stuck in the Stone Age” on Tuesday. Namely, Hrvatski Telekom experienced severe system issues, and there were some speculations that the system was intentionally brought down by a hacking attack.
However, many citizens were without Internet, television, or the ability to make phone calls. The Zagreb Stock Exchange was closed, and the Tax Administration reported that due to technical difficulties at HT, the Tax Administration’s system was unable to provide regular services to taxpayers. Medical prescriptions could not be issued, nor could referrals. In this week’s Fight Club, we raise the question of the security of telecommunications traffic in Croatia.
