Sinj is the safest Croatian city with over 20,000 inhabitants, according to the results of a study conducted by the magazine Zaštita in collaboration with the Economic Institute of Zagreb based on data from the Ministry of the Interior for the year 2014. The study covered 29 of our cities, and the frequency of crime was calculated based on the number of criminal offenses per 1,000 inhabitants.
Violent and property crimes, traffic offenses, and drug abuse were analyzed, and according to all observed criteria, Sinj is the safest Croatian city for the second consecutive year with a rate of 0.95. Samobor holds second place with a rate of 1.71, and Virovitica is third with 1.89. At the bottom are Zadar, Pula, and Čakovec.
– If we observe the average safety rate in 2014, we can see that it has improved across Croatia compared to the previous year – emphasized Nataša Gajski Kovačić, executive editor of the magazine Zaštita, adding that the aim of the research is to encourage those cities with poorer results to make changes and to share the knowledge of those whose safety is at an admirable level.
She also announced a five-day event on the occasion of the Day of Security Guards, which is celebrated on September 21. The event ‘Days of Protection and Security’ includes sports games, an exhibition and presentation of equipment and services from the security sector, demonstration exercises by public safety services for citizens in Ban Josip Jelačić Square, as well as the 1st International Conference on Security Standards aimed at private security companies and the corporate sector.
