The Croatian case is resolved for me because the Croatian parliament has passed the law, which the Croatian government promised to do, stated Commissioner Reding upon her arrival at the meeting of justice ministers from EU member states, who gathered for a regular meeting in Luxembourg.
When asked when the Commission would halt the procedure it initiated before Croatia changed the law, Reding replied that it would do so as soon as the law comes into force.
Two weeks ago, the Commission began consultations with member states on activating the protective measures provided for in Article 39 of the Croatian Accession Treaty because the Croatian law on the arrest warrant was not in accordance with European legal standards. Member states had ten working days to respond to this.
At the Luxembourg meeting of European justice ministers is also Minister Orsat Miljenić. He is expected to discuss with his Hungarian counterpart Navračić the request from Croatia for the extradition of MOL leader Hernádi. Signals are coming from both sides about the need to ease tensions and leave the resolution of the dispute between INA and MOL to business partners and the judiciary.
