The issue of executing the European arrest warrant in the case of the CEO of MOL, Zsolt Hernádi, is a matter for the judiciary, not politics, and there is nothing to discuss about it, stated Croatian Minister of Justice Orsat Miljenić on Monday in Luxembourg.
“There is nothing to discuss about it; it is a matter for the judiciary, and it will act within its jurisdiction,” Miljenić said in response to a journalist’s question regarding the status of Croatia’s request for the extradition of Zsolt Hernádi, for whom a red Interpol international warrant and a European arrest warrant have been issued.
Croatian judiciary suspects Hernádi of bribing former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader with ten million euros to transfer the management rights of the Croatian company INA to MOL, for which Sanader was sentenced to ten years in prison last year by a first-instance ruling.
Miljenić is participating in a meeting of the justice ministers of the European Union member states in Luxembourg on Monday.
The minister welcomed the statement by Vice-President of the Commission Viviane Reding, who stated on Monday morning before the start of the ministerial meeting that for her, the case “lex Perković” is concluded after the Parliament voted on amendments to the Law on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters.
“For us, this case was concluded long ago, and I am glad that now, formally, through these statements, we have put a ‘dot on the i’,” said Miljenić.
