During the first eight months of 2013, the number of newly employed persons in tourism occupations amounted to 31,799 thousand, which represents an increase of as much as 18.1 percent compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ).
In the mentioned period, newly employed persons in tourism activities accounted for 21.7 percent of the total number of newly employed persons. The highest number of people was employed in the occupations: waiter (+21.8% compared to last year), cook (+18.2% compared to last year), and housekeeper (+2.3% compared to last year).
– The increase in the number of newly employed in tourism occupations shows that the main part of the tourist year has been going very well and that the demand for new staff has also increased in August. Given the good forecast for the post-season, we believe that contracts for seasonal workers will be extended and that employees in tourism activities on fixed-term contracts will remain in their jobs longer. The Ministry of Tourism is undertaking numerous activities to extend the season, which would also increase the number of permanently employed in tourism activities and boost consumption – said Minister Darko Lorencin.
