The Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts (HOK) believes that forced collections of debts for taxes and other public dues exceeding 2,000 kuna will further burden craftsmen and lead to business closures and job losses.
We are surprised by such a low limit of 2,000 kuna considering the previous limits for public disclosure of debtor data, HOK officials state.
HOK President Dragutin Ranogajec believes that this will, in any case, further burden craftsmen, especially given the fact that a large portion of them, who had debts, were unable to meet the unacceptable conditions for restructuring.
Ranogajec emphasizes that this move by the Tax Administration could put many craftsmen in a situation where they will have to close their businesses, which means that their employees will also lose their jobs.
The question is, he says, whether once a craftsman closes their business, they will be able to reopen it.
We are confident that the Ministry of Finance will consider the situation and raise the limit, stated the HOK president commenting on the announcement from the Ministry of Finance regarding the initiation of forced debt collection for taxes and other public dues from citizens, craftsmen, and companies.
The Tax Administration reported today that it will proceed with forced collection of tax debts, which means that enforcement actions are expected against individuals and legal entities that have not utilized measures for more favorable repayment of tax debts.
According to the records of the Tax Administration, about 75,000 entities (25,000 legal entities and 50,000 individuals) with debts of 3.5 billion kuna have not utilized the option for restructuring or pre-bankruptcy settlement.
In this context, the Tax Administration reminds that they have repeatedly given entrepreneurs the opportunity to pay their debts for taxes and other public dues under more favorable conditions.
