The head of the Hungarian MOL, Zsolt Tamas Hernadi, has been ordered into investigative detention today. This decision was made by the investigating judge of the Zagreb County Court, Krešimir Devčić, at the request of USKOK in the INA-MOL case.
USKOK submitted a request for the determination of investigative detention to the court in order to issue a European Arrest Warrant for Hernadi, and possibly an international wanted notice, writes Jutarnji list. The Croatian prosecution decided on this step due to Hernadi’s unavailability and the persistent refusal of Hungarian judicial authorities to cooperate in this case, which they justified by citing national security concerns.
USKOK initiated the investigation into the INA-MOL affair back in June 2011 against former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Zsolt Hernadi. According to the indictment, they agreed that Sanader would receive €10 million in bribes for assisting MOL in acquiring controlling management rights in INA. According to their agreement, MOL acquired a majority in the management bodies of INA at the beginning of 2009 during the amendment of the shareholders’ agreement, and at that time, the non-profitable gas business was also separated from INA, which was also an integral part of the Sanader-Hernadi agreement.
