Incentives for Housing Savings Are Still Needed

The topic of abolishing state incentives for housing savings has resurfaced, after it raised quite a stir at the end of last year. Although there are no official announcements regarding the abolition, savers are understandably concerned about their deposits.

Namely, housing savings banks without incentive funds do not exist anywhere in the world, while this type of savings creates a fund that is protected from market fluctuations and does not jeopardize the existence of debtors, as happened here with loans in Swiss francs. No reasonable person is against the institution of housing savings, but the debate about whether the state should encourage savings in the existing manner continues, which leads us to question whether 500 kuna a year can attract or deter someone from housing savings?
