A crash test was held at the Zagreb university campus as part of the education for court experts, as well as for the public about the consequences of collisions.
About 50 court experts and journalists gathered at the campus in Borongaj to see a presentation of two collisions; a personal car hitting a cyclist and a truck hitting a personal vehicle. The screech of brakes and impacts froze the blood in the veins of those present, but the real work followed afterward. The court experts examined the accident scene and conducted a collision analysis.
– We check the formulas we have, which are globally recognized, but we also verify some of our observations. This is extremely important in our work because a lot is changing – said a court expert from Osijek.
Although the site does not look reputable, in collaboration with the university in Graz, they are working with the most modern equipment. The head of the Institute for Traffic and Technical Expertise, Goran Zovak, emphasized the importance of educating experts.
– Here they could see accidents that they usually assess but under known conditions. This can help them, but it is also an opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues about certain cases and how to resolve them – he said.
Test participants highlighted that given the increasing number of cyclists on the roads, one should be more cautious and use protective equipment. In the first eight months of this year, the number of cyclists killed has increased compared to last year, and everyone is appealing for special attention while driving.
