Given the extremely difficult state of the city finances and the debt of two salaries to city employees, as well as solidarity towards 2,500 unemployed in the city, Mayor Božo Petrov has decided to cut his and all city employees’ salaries to the minimum wage with an addition for years of service.
With this measure, as he states, the administration aims to settle overdue salaries and raise funds for projects for which they are trying to apply for European funds.
They also expect that the Government and the Ministry of Finance will take into account the determination and seriousness of the new city administration and its intentions to settle debts and stabilize the city finances. They also expect the DORH to resolve the criminal complaints filed by the City of Metković against former mayor Stipe Gabrić Jambo and city officials as soon as possible by raising charges against the responsible individuals.
The administration has determined, as stated, the debts of the City of Metković to the state and suppliers amounting to 17.6 million kuna, and considering that the annual revenues of the city are 17 million kuna, it is noted that the debts exceed the annual revenue.
The former city administration presented the budget as larger, as it included earmarked funds received from the Republic of Croatia for the Natural History Museum and the new library and reading room, it is emphasized in the statement.
