Prime Minister Zoran Milanović today finally commented on the announcement of sanctions by the European Commission and once again reiterated that he will not yield to pressure, specifically from Viviane Reding, whom he stated is building her campaign for a seventh term in the Commission on this conflict.
Milanović stated that no one will wipe the floor with the Croatian state, and that Croatia is not a bird reserve, appealing, as he says, for at least a little self-respect.
He said, as reported by Večernji list, that the Government will change the controversial lex Perković at the next session, but not in the way the EC wants, rather in the way he announced, which means that Croatia will start applying the European arrest warrant only from July 10, 2014.
To all those who say that Croatia will lose money from European funds, he stated that this is not true, that Croatia will not lose a single cent, and that we will not suffer any damage, he claims, even regarding entry into the Schengen area.
He reiterated that this is a matter of trust and said:
– Who will be trusted here? The democratically elected government of the Republic of Croatia or someone from the EC who is going for their seventh term?
Milanović emphasized that this is not about his private opinion but the stance of the entire Government.
