The US and Russia reached an agreement on Saturday in Geneva regarding the control of Syrian chemical weapons, stated US Secretary of State John Kerry after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
John Kerry said at a joint press conference that an agreement had been reached on the methodology for the removal and destruction of these weapons, and that the US and Russia had agreed on the number and type of weapons that Syria must submit a list of within one week.
The US Secretary of State stated that the US and Russia had agreed that Syria must allow the UN to verify all sites, and that efforts towards the removal of weapons and preparations for the Geneva 2 conference should be linked and parallel.
Lavrov emphasized that the agreement is based on consensus and compromise, and that the two sides have achieved their goal.
