Retail trade in Croatia in July decreased by 1.2 percent in real terms compared to June, while it increased by 0.4 percent in real terms compared to July of last year, as reported by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).
Calendar-adjusted data show that retail trade, conducted by all business entities engaged in this activity regardless of their primary activity, nominally increased by 3.6 percent in July compared to the same month last year, while it is 0.4 percent higher in real terms.
This continues the annual growth in retail trade, albeit at a slower pace than in the previous two months. Namely, retail trade has been continuously declining since March of last year, with an increase of 1.3 percent in May of this year and 2.6 percent in June.
Statistical data, according to original, unadjusted indices, show that retail trade in July this year recorded a nominal increase of 4.8 percent compared to July of last year, while in the first seven months of this year, there is a recorded increase of 2 percent compared to the same period last year.
Data by trade sectors show that retail trade in July this year nominally increased compared to the same month last year in most trade sectors. Thus, in the most important trade sector, non-specialized stores predominantly selling food, which have the largest share of 38.4 percent in total retail, a nominal increase of 1.3 percent was recorded in July.
The highest nominal annual increase of 23.7 percent was recorded in specialized stores selling food, while significant nominal growth is also noted in the retail of textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather products, at 21.7 percent, as well as in other retail outside of stores, at 20.2 percent.
At the same time, a nominal decline in trade was recorded in the retail of motor vehicles, parts, and accessories, by 7.7 percent, as well as in the retail of computer equipment, books, newspapers, etc., by 1.8 percent.
