As of September 3, 1763 workers have signed contracts in the new companies of Brodosplit, with the most important phase of the personnel restructuring expected to be completed by the end of October or early November. By the end of this week, 918 workers will receive severance payments, and the total amount of severance payments will be 47.7 million kuna, Brodosplit responded to inquiries about the paid severance payments.
As is known, Tomislav Debeljak, the owner of the Samobor-based DIV, has committed not only to pay incentive severance payments for 1300 workers who are truly surplus at the Split shipyard but for all 3300 people, of whom 2000 will return to work. This amounts to 4000 kuna per year of service for the first 20 years, and after that, 1500 kuna per year of uninterrupted service at Brodosplit. Why did they decide on this move?
– To mark a new beginning for Brodosplit in this way, to convey to the workers who remain that there is great trust in them, but also because in the event of a worst-case scenario (that Brodosplit fails in restructuring, which we believe will not happen) the workers would be compensated in advance with the severance payments already received. This is about symbolic, value-based, and socio-material reasons for which this model was applied, which, as far as we know, has not yet been recorded in the history of corporate restructuring – they respond at Brodosplit.
