The government has responded to European Commissioner for Justice Viviane Reding, expressing surprise that Reding mentions possible measures against Croatia in her new letter if it does not quickly amend the law on the European Arrest Warrant, reported Novi list.
According to Novi list, the government is surprised by the mention of the possibility of activating protective measures, as it believes this would only be considered in the case of serious deficiencies in the application of European legal acquis.

According to the same source, the government claims in the letter to Reding that Slovenia and the Czech Republic have also temporally limited the application of the arrest warrant, although they did not agree on this in the accession negotiations, but were not penalized for it.
Reding stated on Wednesday that she sent a new letter to the Croatian government requesting a swift amendment to the law on the application of the European Arrest Warrant.
Croatia adopted a law at the end of June, colloquially known as lex Perković, which limits the application of the European Arrest Warrant to crimes committed after August 2002.
