Restructuring of the Student Center: 40 million kuna of debt repaid, employee statuses are being reviewed

The restructuring management of the Student Center of the University of Zagreb, appointed at the beginning of the year with the task of consolidating and restructuring the Student Center, has initiated negotiations with the largest creditors regarding the settlement of debts, which resulted in the write-off of part of the interest and the payment of 40 out of a total of 121 million kuna, which was the debt amount as of December 31, 2012.

-This has reduced the total debt by one third and ensured stable procurement of goods necessary for the proper operation of Student Nutrition and Accommodation. Negotiations are still ongoing, and their final results will be known in the coming months, say officials from the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports.

As they explain, negotiations with the largest creditors are focused on reducing debts through mutual agreements to reduce their claims against obligations to the state, triple or multiple offsets with their creditors and obligations of those creditors to the state, or the government taking over part of the claims and paying them from budget funds.

According to data published in January, the Student Center owed the most to Vindija Milk, amounting to 11.5 million kuna. Following are PIK Vrbovec and HEP Toplinarstvo, with debts of 7.9 and 4.7 million kuna, respectively. The list also includes Agrokor’s Zvijezda, Žitnjak, Ledo, as well as Saponija Osijek and the security service Bilić Erić. All listed obligations pertain to the previous year, with the largest portion for the period from June to December 2012.

The restructuring management, led by Pejo Pavlović, is ‘determining the employment and legal statuses of all employees and reviewing the internal organization of the Student Center to prevent future losses,’ and an increase in the student menu prices has also been announced.

Thus, instead of the current 4.4 kuna for a menu priced at 16.7 kuna, they will pay 6.5 kuna for a menu that will cost 22.6 kuna.

The price of accommodation will remain unchanged.
