Finally Regulating the Import of GM Components for Animal Feed

For the past two months, no ships carrying soybean meal have arrived at the port of Rijeka, thus the Croatian market continues to be supplied through the port of Koper.

After Croatia’s accession to the European Union, it is possible to clear goods immediately upon loading at the port of Koper and continue with the cargo to the unloading location, i.e., the end user.

This way, the costs of paying freight forwarder services in Croatia and Slovenia are reduced, and ultimately, the handling of goods from loading to unloading at the consumer is faster.

For record-keeping, the freight forwarder is obliged to send reports to the tax authority in the country of customs clearance.
The Ministry of Health has issued a Directive on the marketing of genetically modified food and genetically modified animal feed approved in the European Union market.
According to the mentioned Directive, when placing GM animal feed approved in the European Union on the market, it is necessary to submit a Notification of placing GM animal feed on the market to the Ministry no later than 30 days from the date of placing it on the market of the Republic of Croatia.

This will finally regulate the previously prohibited import of GM components for animal feed, and Croatian importers and producers will be equalized with producers from other countries in the European Union, which means they will be more competitive in sourcing raw materials and ultimately more competitive in pricing in the final product.

Last week, a new USDA report was issued, which many experts disagreed with. Time will tell who is right, but many expect a strong drop in corn prices, even by $30/ton.
Soybean meal prices in Brazil are very low, and only catastrophic figures regarding the state of soybean meal in America could trigger a rise.

Weather conditions in the USA remain positive for both crops, although in some areas there is a possibility of frost due to the colder temperatures arriving.
