The Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Damir Hadžić (SDP), stated that he remains convinced that the construction of the Pelješac Bridge will not happen and that a solution will be sought in accordance with what Bosnia and Herzegovina proposed, which would be the construction of a corridor through Neum.
According to him, as reported by Dnevni Avaz, this would be in the interest of both Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and such a corridor, according to the Bosnian side’s proposal, would not be “extraterritorial in any way” and would imply “consideration of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s interests.” Hadžić also stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina will not create any problems for Croatia, of course, provided that “all prior conditions towards that country are met,” although he did not specify what those conditions are.
As Dnevni Avaz learns from the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of the Advisory Board of Bosnia and Herzegovina at earlier meetings proposed the option of constructing the “Neum Bypass,” which already exists in the spatial plan of this municipality.
In Hadžić’s opinion, Croatia must make a huge financial effort to resolve this issue. He says he does not see any irrational people in the EU and Croatia who are willing to engage in the construction of a facility that does not demonstrate its profitability.
– We are waiting for that study. I still think that one does not have to be a special expert to know that the construction of a bridge is one of the most complex, most difficult, and certainly the most expensive solutions – said Hadžić, adding that if the Pelješac Bridge were to be built, the condition remains for free and unobstructed access to the Neum Bay and its waters.
