One billion kuna is being invested in the Sisak region. The development of what was once a strong industrial city, now economically lagging, should be stimulated by the reconstruction of the railway corridor, known as the Sisak route.
By the middle of next year, nearly one billion kuna will be invested in this direction, after which trains between Sisak and Zagreb will be able to travel at speeds of up to 140 kilometers per hour.
– Travel time will be reduced from 60 to 30 minutes, which means that it is visible and achievable, and you know that the government’s policy is to invest in railways – explained Siniša Hajdaš Dončić, Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure. He reminded that the priorities are corridors between Hungary and the Adriatic, as well as Slovenia and Serbia. And precisely on this so-called Sava route, these works are emerging as a lifeline for Slavonia. Investment in the Sisak direction is part of the strategy for rapid connectivity of our major cities of Split, Rijeka, and Zagreb with their surroundings.
– In some areas, rail transport can take on the role of trams in connecting cities or towns that are about 15 kilometers apart. These investments are absolutely justified – said Minister Hajdaš Dončić.
Where there are not enough passengers, the minister reminds, trains will be replaced by buses. This will be regulated by the end of the year. The state will sign a ten-year contract with HŽ Passenger Transport.
