Today is the deadline by which the French investor in Zagreb Airport must fulfill contractual obligations, namely to provide guarantees and commence works.
Media speculation has already suggested that the patience of the Banski dvori is running out, and the relevant minister Siniša Hajdaš Dončić has stated that if the French do not fulfill their part of the agreement, that is, if their company does not receive bank guarantees, the entire project will be canceled and a new tender will be announced. It should be noted that Jutarnji list recently reported that the French concessionaire ZAIC is seeking a reduction in the scope of works for certain parts of the airport in the first phase of construction to reduce overall construction costs and proposes an increase in various fees paid by passengers and airlines.
Namely, projections for an increase in the number of passengers to 3.5 million in the first phase are no longer so certain, prompting the concessionaire to seek a reduction in investment.
The concession agreement was signed more than a year ago, but the concessionaire has not yet closed the financial structure, which is the main prerequisite for taking over the existing airport and starting works.
