Hoteliers Offer Discounts of Up to 50 Percent During Peak Season

According to Novog lista, numerous hotels on the Adriatic are offering discounts of 10 to 30 percent for the peak season period. According to information from the ‘field’, the number of tourists resembles May or October more than the peak season, which is confirmed by many hospitality providers.
That there are fewer tourists is also evident from the traffic numbers at border crossings, which were weaker this weekend compared to the same time last year. The trend of weekends with fewer tourist arrivals has continued, with data from the Ministry of the Interior indicating that around 780,000 travelers entered Croatia over Saturday and Sunday, which is 120,000 fewer than last year. 

Speaking about the market situation, Mario Jantol, CEO of Hotel Baška, pointed out that the severity of this year can be seen in the fact that practically all hoteliers on the Adriatic have last-minute offers during the peak season.
– Specifically, our situation is considerably worse than last year. Looking at a daily basis, instead of last year’s 90 percent, we know we have an occupancy rate of 75 percent. In my opinion, the biggest problem is that there are no signals that things will improve – this hotelier pointed out.
Agencies also indicate that the season is worse. Tami Sokolić, president of the Professional Group of Travel Agencies PGŽ, emphasizes that this year is as expected by the realistic part of the commercial tourism economy. The effects are worse than last year, she will say, noting that tour operator networks in well-developed markets are functioning well, but individual guests are lacking.

There is no excessive optimism among renters either. Slavica Grgurić, president of the Association of Renters of the Island of Krk, stated that the situation is not very bright. 
– As far as I can see, it has been weaker than last year so far, especially since everyone expected that with Croatia’s entry into the EU, there would be more guests. There are still places on the beaches ‘like in a story’, this renter said, noting that illegal renting is significantly driving down prices for legal renters.

However, the Ministry of Tourism released today the figures for the first five months of this year, indicating an 11 percent increase compared to the same period last year. According to official data, revenues in tourism activities also grew in May, by 14 percent compared to the same month last year.
The highest revenue by categories of activities in the first five months of this year was achieved by legal and physical persons in the accommodation sector in hotels and similar facilities, amounting to 2.43 billion kuna or 5.4 percent more than in the same period last year. However, what the figures for July and August will be remains to be seen.
