The GfK consumer confidence index rose to 38.35 points in June, marking its largest increase to date, with positive shifts noted in the assessment of the current financial situation and expectations for future income, as announced today by GfK – Market Research Center.
“Consumers once again expressed a new dose of optimism in June, and the GfK consumer confidence index recorded its largest increase to date – from 33.49 to 38.35 points,” emphasize GfK Croatia.
Positive shifts, as noted, occurred in all components of the index – from the assessment of the current financial situation and expectations for future income to the propensity to consume.
Consumption has increased for the first time since September of last year, which may represent a positive sign for marketing professionals, GfK notes.
Whether this is a wave of optimism ahead of Croatia’s entry into the EU or a sign of an imminent economic recovery is still uncertain, but what seems somewhat certain is that we hit the bottom in consumer confidence in December of last year, the statement says.
The index was obtained through a survey of attitudes on a representative sample of the population of Croatia (N=1000), and the survey was conducted using personal interviews in households in June of this year.
The index scale ranges from 0 to 100, with values above 50 representing an upward phase and values below 50 representing a downward phase of the economic cycle.
